As I was home alone for a few days I decided to get these caches off the map as they'd been there way to long. It seems a long long time ago we did the original walk in the baking sunshine. So this was the first of the add-ons. I thought I'd have to park at the top of Old Hall Lane as the RSPB carpark used to be reserved for members only. As i got my boots on a local asked if I was off to the marshes to which i replied yes. They told me the carpark was open to all which was great news as it saved me a mile walk to get to the path. So as the began to set I wandered off. I'd forgotten how a mile as the crow flies turns into 2 on the windy coast path. Quick find at GZ and on to the next.

You could see how high the water level had come along here with it obviously going over the sea wall in places. Lovely clear night and great views of Mersea on the way to this. Quick find. TFTC

Last one on the marshes. Pitch dark now but lovely to walk listening to the birds. Quick find here. Decided I may as well carry on along this side all the way back so I ended up walking the entire sea wall. Glad they're off the map. TFTC

Solved the puzzle after a nudge from Mr.Crow and finding the correct programme to help with the solution. Very wet along the path to GZ but all is well with it.

So our second attempt for this trail and the weather was sunny, mild and not rainy/stormy so an improvement on a couple of days back.

Omg this was a sneaky one and my jeans just had to get muddy for this one! Glad no one was nearby to watch my gymnastics lol kids thought mummy had gone mad with this one :) tftc

Easy find with the clue. Much easier to retrieve than number 2! Tftc

Walking from 4 to 5 caused us trouble as the fields were extremely muddy and we took the wrong way and then nearly the wrong side of the water. Finally got to it and TH81 son found the tub with delight. Tftc

Well by this point the kids were a bit grumpy (aged 5 and 3) and trying to keep them safe by the road and not fall in the ditch was a bit too much for us to handle. Thought we would find this quickly as we found 6 easily but I did a quick scan and nothing. Had we looked harder we would have found it I'm sure but the traffic was too heavy and a white van close by was just staring at us too much!

The children love finding tubs for swappable things. My daughter I think took a horse toy ( from this cache or #5). Think they left a marble! Tftc

Boo hoo we just couldn't find this one. Too many prickles to contend with and a long gate to search. As the kids were fed up by now, we decided to leave it hidden.

Met a couple of dog walkers on this road which made the find hard. Once they had passed, we attempted to hurdle the river under the tree without falling in. Unfortunately this was too deep and I just couldn't grab anything without landing in the water...damn those heavy rain showers! Had to pass on this even though I'm sure I spotted it.

We really needed this one after not finding the last 2 but alas we couldn't find it. Being a tub we thought it would easy but we just looked at the chicken coup wire gap and thought "no way are we putting our hand down there!" Had a brief try and even on hands and knees (more muddy jeans) but no joy. :(

Relief! After not finding the last 3, it was a relief to find this one easily and quickly. Trail done...8 out of 12 on the trial done now! Thanks for the trail...maybe we should have waited for warmer weather and dry conditions. Can imagine this trail is beautiful when fields are in bloom. Total of 3 hours in heavy muddy fields with two young children was a challenge but we did it! Kids were treated to a much deserved meal afterwards with ice cream (in January!) and diet cola as a treat lol trust me...they needed the pick me up!Tftc and the trail.

We took a drive through Colchester for some local caching. Explored new areas and revisited some old cache hides. Overall it was a good outing, discovered a miniature railway, a few good cache hides, a hand full of church micros and the supermarkets also provide good cover for when it rain. We replaced a wet log or two, but after the recent rain majority of micro logs were damp or wet. At the end we bumped into Chequerdog, giving us a much needed hint. A big thanks to Murrkin for his much appreciated help.

Came back after my unsucessful find on New Year's Day ! Had saved cache to an off line list ages ago and did not have the correct code for padlock. Armed with the correct code as mr crow had kindly e-mailed me we got in. My son left one of our tbs that recently travelled to Lapland and we took two to help them move on in the winter. Thank you and sure we might be back if we need to place a tb in the future - lovely big cache !

Having dropped off at the Swifts, decided to brave the wind and rain along this stretch of the Blackwater. Heading out to sea this was the first of 7 today along a 7KM round walk. It was nice to be blown home and with out too much rain! After an initial look in the wrong place / steps got there in the end TFTC SL.

Now have my eye on Osea Island GC at end of low tide causeway. Enjoyed the company of many Oyster Catchers along route.

Now to be blown back to Mill Beach to complete 7KM round trip while Swifts training - expect they found much more mud !!

Crow reminded me of the giant sweetie tin I left here for cachers on the launch day. However, I don't need a sweet with the promise of coffee ahead!

After my recent find at 2/22, and feeling like I could find anything, I thought I would give this another go, especially as others have found it since the last time I was here. I stood on the opposite side of the road, let the GPS settle down and thought, "It should be there". Walked over to that spot and, it was. I could not believe how quickly I found it, after all the searching I did last time I was here. I was glad to sign the log, as I have now completed the Goldhanger East Series. TFTC. and I will leave my favourite point for the series here.

I had not planned to go far to-day, so I had plenty of time to give this a better search than the last time I was here when I had to log a DNF. I started at one end and meticulously searched every square inch until I found it. It was a real pleasure to sign this one. TFTC.

At last this one is solved after picking it up time and time again but getting no-where. So simple when you know how! Thanks Ray for the clue. When we reached GZ we were sure the log inside would be wet as the container was buried in mud and goo, very pleased to say though it is bone dry. Another great puzzle worth a favourite. I'm not very good at anagrams, so I had to solve this without help. I did manage to get there though, and once I had, the anagram became apparent. I entered my numbers into the checker and got a correct. At this point I was still unsure what the field puzzle element might be. I found the cache quite quickly on Saturday morning, still no sign of a field puzzle, then... OMG.... , its brilliant. SL.TFTC, and left one of my latest pathtags. I've got to leave a favourite point for this one.

This sounds just what we need, have only managed straight forward puzzles so far, thanks for organising it.

I found myself doing a Gollum impression by the Ike I got to this one - small people will do well here!! Great cache, TFTC

Hoping to attend with OH, who man flu'd his way out of it last year! I am a carnivore, for catering purposes :D Will be bringing a child too....do I need to log his attendance for numbers?

Those pesky little crows get everywhere and even places you didn't realise existed. StratOman is no map man so we rescued him with this one. Fairly soon managed a nice list and the rest fell into place quite quickly. A favourite for finding all those places named after yourself, you have been busy! StratOman became very useful at GZ as he who has good knees still managed best leap over recent river like ditch! TFTC

When the numbers all came together and gave feasible co-ords on a bridle path I was certain this was correct but the checker said no. Not being deterred I decided to add this to our list of caches for the day with Deebooted & ATM. Alas it looks as though it is back to the drawing board .

Being the sentimental one of our caching team I took this one upon myself to solve with a little bit of paper know how. Having said that it was ATM that found the right method. Once the task was done it all appeared nicely. StratOman just had heartfelt thanks when I found it at GZ. A favourite from us here. TFTC

I must give full credit to my son Andrew for this one, who looked at it during a Xmas get together.
It was Deebooted who spotted a small mistake in the co-ords and finally the checker said yes.
My only contribution was finding the cache ....

We told StratOman what was needed here and he passed it over to his son who had the right tools for the job. StratOman told us the checker said wrong. So whilst he was eating again we had a last minute tweak and the checker did not disappoint. (He admits he can't count!) He came up trumps at GZ again though but thanks Andrew for your time and effort. TFTC

Once a small error was spotted we were back on the right track, but how to get the co-ordinates ?
Took quiet a while to figure out the last piece of this puzzle.

A real joint effort here right through with the last bit to StratOman for his new eye on such subjects. He found something out we didn't know and we reintroduced him to our idols of the countryside once more. All hands to the deck at GZ to find the little blighter. The inside pot was a little damp inside but we mopped it up so should be good for a while. TFTC and a favourite for honouring those little genius chaps that gave our country the best maps in the world before the satallite age.

This one may need some attention soon. The inside pot was damp within but we have mopped it out so will last for a bit.

Speed has never been my strong point, especially with 69 year old neuron depleted brain.

I bought a book once with this type of puzzle in and then stuck to Sudokus instead. StratOman reminded me why with this one! At least at GZ we helped! TFTC

Couldn't crack the anagram at first with the 111 ? Got on with the sorting out of facts and over did it with data but got a nice list going. Then the penny dropped at exactly what I was looking at. Found the total anagram when I found more data! Lovely one to get your teeth into. I was so excited that when the checker said yes I missed the bit about the field puzzle element. Luckily it all fell into place in StratOmans hands at GZ. Favourite point awarded. TFTC

This is now in my diary - as most of Mr Crows have eleuded me and lots are on my doorstep - I am in dire need of this event!!!!

I needed a cache for today and wanted to go for a drive so decided on this one. I solved the puzzle a while ago but had not managed to get out for the find.

Yippeeee another one solved! Yet again a great puzzle Mr Crow!

cache soon found and promptly dropped in river, luckily i was able to fish it out and its none the worse for wear, lots of fun getting to GZ, trousers nicely splashed with mud,, at least i look the part lol tftc

once i found the correct way to GZ the cache was soon in hand, took a bit of twisting and turning to actually reach it tftc

so busy faffing about with the straps on my rucksack i nearly walked straight past this one tftc

this was really frustrating i knew where it was (or so i thought) and what to look for, i found it in the end (after exhausing all the other possibilities) tftc

took a while to find this one, marching backwards and forwards like a lost soldier, got it in the end then had a wry smile on the drive home when i passed GZ, yep, i know your secret tftc

im glad i was wearing sensible shoes for this one, GZ very waterlogged but cover replaced and lets hope cache stays put

clue helped a lot and i learnt something too (cant tell you what, spoilers and all that dont you know)

I've been struggling with his one on and off for many months, then I had a flash of inspiration and tackled it from another angle and hey presto the coords were good, I found it a little amusing that I'd walked past GZ on the way to another cache TFTC

Had been on a maintenance run today and a few caches that had crept onto the map. B had worked out the final coords for this and although I was out of time I thought 'Oh just one more'. Of course this has to be the one where I got wet. I waded my way along the footpath to GZ think I need to invest in Galoshes!! Cache was nice and dry but I wasn't!

There was a huge skein of geese flying near here and then they all circled round and landed on the pond - a brilliant sight. TFTC

As it was a beautiful sunny day today what better place to come than Mr Crow land and in particular Old Hall Marshes. We had a wonderful walk around here three years ago and as there were the odd few caches here now it was the perfect day for a long walk and the chance to take a few photos.
We had noticed in Hollyncharlie's log that it was now possible for anyone to park in the car park on the reserve, so we started from there and did 7.6 miles in three hours.
Quite muddy in a few places but expected it to be a lot worse. Some of the marshes were quite flooded but did not bother us walking higher up.

A lovely day to-day for a walk in the sunshine. I parked in Salcott and headed off. It was a bit soggy underfoot to start with, but when I reached the acres of grass it was fine, didn't even look damp. I got to the stile and crossed into the next field, and keeping to the edge managed to keep out off the mud. After all the rain we have had lately, this walk was not as bad as I was expecting it to be. I'm glad I made the decision to go. If it wasn't for the fact that this was the last cache I needed to complete the Essex 100 I may not have done. I reached GZ and was surprised at how different it looked to the last time I was here. Most of the prickly vegetation had gone, and it looked quite bare. As before, with DNF's I have logged, I found this one very easily this time. I signed the log and left a pathtag. Now for a pleasant walk back the way I came, happy, knowing I have completed the Essex 100.

Having attempted this one a couple of weeks ago in the pouring rain and water logged fields, we tried again today on a gloriously sunny day. After a bit of a battle we got to GZ and signed the log. It's a shame we were so noisy as judging by the hoof prints there are some substantial deer roaming these parts. Another favourite for the amazing location. TFTC #1,701

This one has been driving me mad for the last six months - finally solved today

Thanks to PeCeh for his notification of this up and coming event at the Earth Cache Anniversary on friday night. Have spent many a quiet evening in last year solving these brutes and so the motivation now to get better prepared for the assault on Crowland in the spring. Looking forward to going back to school.

Had a brief look at this when it was published but dismissed it due to my lack of Google Earth skills and the distance from home (17 miles as the "CROW" flies and over 30 miles by road). This morning $tu looks at it and sees that there have already been eight correct answers on the geochecker but still no logs. I take Marley out for a walk and on my return find that $tu is close to a solution. Still no logs so we decide to go for it as we both still need a FTF for the month.

Arrived at GZ expecting to see evidence of other cachers however not one to be seen. Surely there must be some locals who have solved the puzzle? The cache was soon to hand but now an unexpected twist. There is another step to take before we can claim a find. Fifteen minutes later and eureka a joint FTF with $tu at 2.20pm. A definite favourite here. TFTC

Looked at this cache this morning and noticed that 8 people had correctly solved it but the cache still hadn't been logged as being found, so i thought i would attempt it. It took me a little while getting to grips with google earth and struggled to find the first clues initially and I was finding it all a bit frustrating but once I got going and found a few of the clues it started becoming quite enjoyable with each clue being ticked off. It took me about 2 hours i think to find all of the clues and have the co-ords worked out, i managed to get my sums wrong the first time i put the co-ords into the checker, but i was pleased that it was just a maths error on my part rather than getting one of the clues wrong!
Once the checker confirmed i had the right co-ords it soon became apparent why there hadn't been any logged finds as of yet .

Myself and gspleo decided to have some lunch first and then make our way to GZ.

Once we arrived at GZ we had to wait around for a bit but we were soon on the hunt and found what we were looking for, but it wasn't going to be that straight forward and after about 15/20mins we could finally celebrate our FTF.

A very good puzzle with a clever twist.

I did solve the puzzle last Saturday evening, but was unable to get to GZ until to-day because of work. It was a most enjoyable tour, and another excellent puzzle. I left an owl, and took the hare TB. I've got to give this a favourite point. SL.TFTC.

Eventually solved after being berated at Event #25 for not being FTF. (another erroneous website prolonged the effort) & got the 'successful' output from MrCrowChecker, who was relieved as he could then go to bed.
Never mind the field puzzle that was mentioned in a log, what about the water hazard? Did it rain last night? I guess the moat around GZ will not always be there. TFTC. Obviously a FAV. I left Mr Crow & Miss Kitty coins for future cachers.

Going to have to change my caching name to stupid. Got up early, got ready and had daughter drive me to this event as I have a bad shoulder. Arrived full of anticipation for a morning of meeting new cachers snd learning how to solve the fiendish puzzles that drive me mad. I even skipped breakfast so I could do jistice to that supplied.
got there to find an empty car park and locked gate, decided to check the cache page only to find Im a month too early. Don't know how I managed to get it wrong, its clear enough on the page.
oh well, will have to wait and look forward to it.

Loved this puzzle, even if I did have to go backwards and forwards a few times to obtain the numbers. (and had a bit of help). Tried to retrieve on Saturday, but muggle was sitting right in front of it, so decided to leave till today. Great container with lots of swaps, took pathtag and left a few goodies. Meant to say, I will be archiving the local Wallace and Gromit Series soon (http://coord.info/GC1N25R) to make way for a new trail. The bespoke caches have suffered muggling and the series has had it's day. I will, however, ensure it is in good order for the ? about ? event on 15th Feb.

We had thought of launching the new trail at this event, but it's so muddy we are saving it for another later in the year - probably May or June.

I had an inkling about this cache and my inkling was correct, I thought I better solve the puzzle first though to confirm, which I did with speed luckily knowing Tiptree well helped alot, so when the geochecker confirmed my thoughts i wasn't suprised. I headed off to GZ to quickly find the cache, however an extra twist and turn meant that it was a few minutes later before I actually signed the sheet. Extremely muddy walk to GZ, thankfully found the cache nice and dry. The footpath was completely flooded though. TFTC and another great puzzle.

Went looking for this one today whilst driving about the countryside. Squelched my way to GZ to be faced with the footpath blocked by a pond which I suspect is a lot larger than it should be. Managed to get to GZ, after getting a wet foot, only to realise that the cache is actually now under water! Advised CO that some maintenance might be required once the waters have dried up. Will come back another day.

Found myself in the area today with some spare time so went to go and find this one. Inside the cache is nice and dry but the location is an absolute quagmire. Took TB, left a few trinkets from the Christmas crackers. TFTC.

Looked for ages in all the likely spots but no luck for me here today. It was quite wet and muddy here, so I hope it is still safe. Will try again when it is drier.

Solved this one ages ago. Was thwarted by an attempt to find the cache a few months ago by a broken car door!! But I was in the area today and the sun was shining so today was the day to tackle this long awaited cache. What an adventure. No footpath to guide me so just headed in the general direction. There were some people on the farm nearby and I was worried they might see me but they seemed busy enough sawing away at something. Found GZ easily enough in the end. It took 15 minutes to get in and 20 minutes to get back out. I was pretty pleased with that! Of course I got told off by the CO for going in on my own! LOL. Unfortunately as I was going in I managed to lose the pen out of my pocket - no chance of finding it on the way back of course! I was terrified of losing my phone and car keys as well but got out in the end alive. Had to leave a blob on the log and took photographic evidence which the CO has kindly accepted as my having achieved this long awaited goal. Thanks very much for a very memorable cache.

I had a real good look for this without success, dodging some large puddles. Wondered if washed away ! Maybe me !

With ditch full of water, found myself sliding towards wet boots !! Managed to hang on and find this GC. Back to the top to SL and then the risky slide to return GC to location. All good fun !! TFTC

Number 2 today however stopped by flood water - I think ! The ditches are full of water which I think this GC is not accessible - perhaps with waders. On to the next.

Took us a long while to suss this one, and have driven past before without realising its significance.
Pleased to start off a new Rally Round year with this one.

Found this one entirely by accident. We had stopped because although we thought we knew where we were, we weren't where we wanted to be, because we had missed the sign which would have taken us to where we should have been. Caches instinct led Heather to investigate a potential hidey hole where we had fortuitously pulled up.

When I was listening to Grahame Gillywig's talk at the recent ?s about ?s event and he was talking about Conjecturing and Crowjecturing, it dawned on me that there should be a third category...I can't think of a good word for it yet and usually just refer to it as 'Stumbling across'!
I have stumbled across a few Rally Rounds.
In fact it was stumbling across number 27 that got me started on Rally Rounds.
I got home and looked at the cache page and then realised all those little blue ? on the map were related.
I couldn't solve the puzzle at the time and it was only after solving a few more puzzles that I realised what had to be done.
This Rally Round fell into the 'stumbled across' category.
We weren't out looking for it.
But sometimes your brain just wonders about something and there is a cache.
It's a lovely feeling...and really exciting...and then the detective work starts...which one is it? With my terrible short term memory I sometimes find I have already found it
I had thoroughly enjoyed trying to solve this, so I thought I won't log yet. I wanted to try and solve it first.
A recent trip to Brighton gave me an idea and although there were two problems I have not yet resolved I finally got the lovely green success on the checker...

Had seen these puzzles in the Telegraph at weekends but had never attempted one before. These are certainly not the easiest of puzzles to solve, so happy when geochecker said success.
It is such a pity that there is so much water on many of the fields, making life difficult for those living in the countryside.

After copying out 136, I carefully copied this onto my graph pad.
And sharpened what was left of my pencil
I had never seen this type of puzzle and began with a little research.
I quickly made some progress but then couldn't see how to move forward.
The puzzle was placed on the top of my puzzle solving pile for a few days...
Everytime I walked by, I looked at it.
After school one evening I had an idea and after tinkering with a few of the numbers I had a nice plot!

Pete surprised himself by solving this puzzle quite quickly and the find proved to be equally quick.

No printer ink at the moment so I retrieved my A4 pad of graph paper and carefully copied the cache page.
And then the fun began
I really enjoyed trying to solve this.
After a few days I felt happy with my work...the paper was worn thin and my pencil somewhat shorter
But as I tried to work out the co-ords something was wrong...
I looked again and spotted my mistake!
I couple more days of playing and finally it all clicked into place!
I have never seen this type of puzzle before and I thoroughly enjoyed trying to solve it!

Favourite!

We had some trouble in sorting out the correct website for solving this one, but got there eventually.
Hadn't taken notice of the attributes, and so we all had a surprise when Pete retrieved this one from its watery surroundings. We passed it back and forth and finally the log was in Pete's hand.

When I finally sat down to look at them, this was the first I looked at...

I quickly spotted the theme. Many hours of sitting in various university bars listening to tales told by my friend Sean, over a few pints, was a surprise help here
This was a pleasure to solve and I soon had a nice looking plot.

I hadn't noticed the attributes on this either but after a few times round, Mr TA2 was rewarded with the log.

I really enjoyed solving this and for that I am leaving a favourite point here!

I was the official pre-publication puzzle tester of this puzzle. As no maths were involved in obtaining the clues I enjoyed the role - once I got Google Earth Man to travel in the right direction! I loved this puzzle so decided it was a worthy cache for my 5000th find.

So, 5 years, 4 months and 29 days after I started caching I have reached this landmark! Can't wait for Bob's Certificate!

Thank you to all the COs who have set the caches and given so much pleasure, and to all the cachers whose company and friendship I really value.

After no luck at 1/08, found this one quickly, TFTC

Thought this would be a quick drive by in the brief break in the rain but no luck after a good look round.

As the puzzle caches are "on my patch" the Crow has been banned from setting unsolvable puzzles. I have tested and approved 4 out of 5 of them! Awaiting sight of the 5th!

I am also the catering supervisor for the morning and, if you haven't posted in your attendance log the No of attendees in your caching party and your breakfast preference - ie bacon, vegetarian or vegan - I'd be really grateful if you would email me. If you could head your email up as "fodder" that will help me keep track of request!
