Our New Year's Day walk - joined the hoardes for the walk up to Hooker Lake. Well, far fewer hoardes than normal, we hear, but still quite busy. The weather forecast for later in the day wasn't very good so we started as early as possible (as early as possible for New Year's Day!). The mountain was clear as we arrived; cloud gathered later in the morning and swirled around the peaks. Luckily it mostly hung around Mt Sefton and stayed reasonably clear of Aoraki/Mt Cook so we got good views as we walked.

The view here was probably the worst of the trip, with a big dark cloud encroaching from the west. Unfortunately the photos didn't really show how awesome it looked due to the lack of contrast.

Found this quickly be following the hint exactly ???? - TFTC

A great cache to finish the series with. Its how I remember caching used to be. Used to fined 1 of 2 of these a week. Thanks for the walk and lovely caches. Well done George and Rose.

Went down to Tollesbury to do the new lab caches this morning and on the way back I decided to have a little walk in these woods and do the little series of caches.

Today we decided to get out and enjoy the local scenery with a visit to Bradwell and St. Peter's Chapel at Othona. It was chilly but a pleasant walk with a number of caches found, mostly new but some previously found - Mini F and LittleMissF signed these.

I found this cache in May 2018. Busy here today but all fine and dry. Not found in 3 days short of two years but all in good shape here. Signed on behalf of Mini F and LittleMissF.

DNF - Given the other polycache multi's were out of scope due to not founding the first I had brighter hopes for this one. I made my way up the rock solid mud to this nice little spot and then scrambled around again like a complete amateur. Not using my trusty GARMIN doesnt really help and i think the i-phone may have contributed to not knowing quite where to do the more serious poking around. Left disconsolate.

Sooooooo long in the solving. I realised what I had to do but just couldn't.
I have returned to it many times and despite a nudge a while back, still made no progress.
A message about another RallyRound and during the correspondence my thoughts regarding the solve were confirmed. So with lockdown time on hand I ploughed through and collected more than enough data.
What followed was a reasonable start then it all went 'Pete Tong/Ray wRong'.
Further days passed and as the Northing weren't going anywhere I decided to attack the Eastings.
I felt I had them sorted but was unsure, so I I messaged my previous correspondent asking if he could confirm my Eastings. With a minor correction to a digit I was unhappy about, I now had the necessary.
Now it was just a case of returning to the tried and trusted conjecture. (... and I should have guessed)
I felt detailed pace notes necessary but it was a GE alignment that took me where I needed to be, and even then, an unsure delve into the dark and damp.

Always a pleasure to sign a Rally Round. Thanks FTC&P.

Solved 04/01/2021 - a very easy one to solve for anyone with proficient knowledge of graphic design software to unjumble! I found the previous version of this cache.

I parked 120m up the road and walked back to GZ. A number of potential hiding spots, but I found it in the second place I searched. TFTC.

#5222:
Solved 04/01/2021. I'd spent years looking at the previous cache but it never clicked as how to solve it. Today I looked at the Mk II cache, and I managed to get it straight away. Big fan of that band, so I'm glad to get it solved finally. Although I prefer a bit of Abbey Road over Sgt P.

Today I had a bit of daylight after dropping my girlfriend off at work, so took a small diversion to find this one.

I was quite excited to be here really, as a previous cache in this location was my 100th cache find nearly 6 years ago! I initially dived in a little too deep, and spent a few minutes searching for the illusive cache. It ended up being very obvious, but unfortunately I couldn't sign the log - the winter hasn't been good on it and the container and baggy were both swimming in water (photo attached).

After placing back, I backed out of the bush just as a jogger was coming by. A little awkward! TFTC.

8 T's?
Classically there are five styles: white, green, oolong, black and pu-erh.
(In Japan they count more than 20. )
Binnie Hale liked five nice cups (morning, half past eleven, dinner, tea, bed).
But I think the answer must lie in another song lyric, with multiplication understood:
T 4 2 and 2 4 T clearly produce 8 Ts (twice over) as required.
Anyway, inspired by the Mad Hatter's T Party (just Tzing ) and following a meticulous process of induction, deduction, experimentation, ambition, distraction, uglification and derision I finally extracted the coordinates. Even though it meant I missed my T, I set out straight away after solving.

Finding this cache at night might be quite spooky, as GZ is currently guarded by an object which flashes lights if you get too close, though it's probably not a permanent fixture. Once I'd recovered from that, I achieved a nice quick find and discovered a blank log just waiting to be signed.

'T' FTC and a favourite for yet another smiling face in the Tiptree Triangle.

This was my first choice for a suitable cache. A quick find here after walking up from the gates. Unfortunately, the cache was not large enough to fit one of my trackables in, so I left the other to continue its journey from here and went back to the car to plan an alternative. I parked in a lay-by a little walk from GZ and stumbled through the woods, hoping that this cache would be big enough and dry enough to place the Mars Rover TB. Not as far towards an airport as I would have liked but hopefully someone will pick it up and move it on soon.

The cache was excellent! Good to see a well sized cache and well waterproofed. I signed the log, placed the TB to continue its journey and camouflaged the the cache.

Mission Accomplished

What a great morning for a stroll in these quiet woods, even better now the aircraft noise is almost non-existent. Out with my granddaughter who has a non-pupil day from Thurstable. Good to be able to spend some time with her on a one-to-one basis.

Which way to go to do the series?, so many paths we could follow, some marked on the map, some obviously made by dog walkers, most dry but with occasional muddy bits.

Nice easy find here. Took Mars Rover TB.

Used the main drag to get within 50m but then the o/head cover proved too much for the GPSr and we had to work on dead reckoning. After about 5min the satellites reappeared and we were only 10m or so away from GZ.

I seem to recall the original RR80 being a fairly simple trad ?

There are two ways of getting the coordinates, the easy way & the hard way.
However even the easy way has a few pitfalls but perseverance won out, and the numbers were forthcoming.
I'm in awe of the work the CO has put into this puzzle

A long but very pleasant walk today to GZ and thankfully no flashing lights although I did see the culprit.

I must apologies for only giving a virtual favourite as I have run out.
As soon as I can get back to caching again I will add fav.

Find 1520. Day 43 of streak.
I woke up unexpectedly early today and so decided to take a look at the Mr Crow cache that was published yesterday evening. I needs to grab a daily cache today and I am trying to improve my woeful tally of Multis and Mysteries. I have never gone for an FTF in a Mr Crow cache before and it was something I was looking forward to, as the Maldon to Tollesbury Essex 100 series was my first introduction to geocaching. I opened the puzzle page.

I found out that it was much easier to solve the puzzle using an actual computer rather than a phone or tablet. Once this was realised, I methodically began working my way through this well named cache. Ultimately, it didn’t take too long to solve (just over an hour) as I got quite lucky with some of the pieces I left until last. I plugged in the revealed coordinates and set off for the cache.

After a fairly trouble free trip to the cache, I arrived at GZ. Immediately, I spotted what appeared to be a cacher’s trail and my heart sank as I saw my hopes of an FTF fade. Perhaps it was just Mr Crow placing the cache?

I approached the likely location and had a look. An object caught my eye as likely camouflage and I gently moved it aside to reveal the cache! I opened the log, hoping, despite myself, that it was blank. It wasn’t.

It was clearly a late night for the FTF. I signed just below and got back in the car.

Thanks for the cache Mr Crow. I’ll have to work faster to be in with a chance of FTF it seems!

Fave for the evil variation.

I must admit I'm not a great fan of Jigidi puzzles.
They would be better if they rotated the pieces like a real jigsaw.

So it was with trepidation that I finally embarked on JigiSwore.
However I was pleased to see rotation had been implemented. However mirror image was an evil addition, and straight sides [O:]
Unperturbed I battled on whilst watching US Open.
Once started I found it quiet pleasurable and only the sky posed any great problem.
It did help that the pieces were not square.

Spooky driving up to GZ after staring at the picture for so long.
Quick find , signed and returned.
Not sure how the vertically challenged will get this cache ?

Being in Mr Crow country for an other it seemed sensible to pick this up too.
The puzzle was interesting and required a methodical approach. On completion it only clicked. (I know exactly where that is).

Find #2 of 2 for today

Well that dosn't happen everyday. Iahd looked at this a few times knowing that I had found the original. It was a passing comment from a fellow finder that put me on the right track but a still lacked one number, chatting on the phone and a further comment was made this turned out to be the final clue that was required. We contginued to chat about the cache and the fact there had been a few more greeen light through the checker, so agrree that the FTF was probably gone. With this in mine I set out today to put another smilie face on the map.A muddy walk to GZ but a nice quick find and a very surprising blank log sheet, so I signed as the FTF which doesn't happpen often with this CO. I phoned my fellow cacher only to find he was minutes behind me. Perhaps we should talk a bit more. Thanks for the hide Ray.

Now I recall its predecessor, a trad with a twist. When arriving (Jan 2012) I realised why the 'puzzle' element was included. I recall working the way through until being able to sign the log.
So when this newer version appeared I looked at the cache page notes of RR080 and although something useful was there I had no idea how or why.
The other day I reread the verse and a couple of words jogged the memory. I now knew how to solve.
Even then all the required letters were not immediatly forthcoming. No worries I thought I should be able to guess. Making an assumption, which happily was correct, meant I could have hit the checker multiple times but fortunatly I saw half of what was still required. Sometimes the formula offers more than the 'A must be greater than B' type deduction but here that didn't help and finding the final piece was a surprise.

Solved, it was a case of when to visit. I felt sure it had been signed but not logged so I left it.
A call yesterday from infinson about an unrelated matter and I mentioned that I had now solved it.
It must have been curiosity as to who if anyone had found it that made me set out this morning. On route I received a call saying it was previously not found! but now was!
With no need to rush I still visited and happily signed STF within 30 minutes of infinson.

Thanks Ray and Kitty!! FTC&P.

ps was that (annoying) monkey/chimp/ape always part of RR080?
13 Jul 2021RR280GL153A8YBRR280 - Mr CrowFound itStratOman
Whenever a cache is reincarnated I refer to my old notes as the puzzle is usually similar.
But after reading my notes for RR080 I realised our solution didn't open the lock , I remembered that whilst Dee & I struggled to solve the puzzle again, ATM spotted the lock was broken so we signed the log and ran LOL

This has now come back to bit me as I had no idea how to solve RR280.
I tried combinations of all the obvious numbers but alas could not please the checker.

So a little lateral thinking was required. The method of getting the numbers is nothing new but it took me an age to realise that this was the method.

At GZ I was amazed the CO had found an almost identical tree to RR080.
The log was quintuple wrapped by various ziplok's & pots, nice to see
In fact it was the only bone dry log that I signed today.

1. the subtlety of the title was wasted on me.
2. if I never see that chimp again I won't be upset.
3. this is the first time I have found every active rally round.

There was enough in the finders logs to warrant conjecture, or so I thought, then again not really.
I eventually found one eighth (or should that be a Tenth) which was a help.
The checker stubbornly refused my guesses so the painstakingly slow systematic approached commenced. Typically finding the things I'd guessed, first.
75% complete should have been enough but several more attempts followed before I knew.

Setting out early-ish to avoid the midday sun, I chose a route partly walked before. As the sun beat down I imagined the CO striding ahead in a hooded fleeced top working up a sweat. No need here to work one up, I was already ... glowing(?)
I missed the path but happily traversed an easier route until arriving were I needed to be. Unbelievably there was a group of 'workers' nearby seemingly doing nothing and going nowhere. A discrete search revealed nothing hint fitting so a call to a friend to confirm my interpretaion was necessitated. Although correct it's inclination was not as expected.
Much vegetation has I'm sure made the task more challenging. Explaning to my semi-inquisitive onlookers that I was looking for the FFP seemed to assure them that I wasn't completely mad.
Happily the cache found as soon as the FFP was discovered.

Log signed I chose to return via the intended footpath. A decision I soon began to regret. Pressing on, under the oppressive raison d'être for the nearby installations, I finally made it to something that resembled, something I recalled as once being, a footpath. Then taking as much shade as possible, although further, I returned to where I'd parked.

Thanks Ray [for the Puzzle(?)] for the workout which has hopefully lead to me shedding a few ounces.

Great, as always, to find a Rally Round.

Apologies for the duplicated log, but these two puzzles share MO and (almost) GZ (and of course their original inspirations are closely related ), so it's difficult to come up with two completely original logs.

Having solved their predecessors half a decade ago, I didn't have much hope of remembering the details, nor a detailed solution log, but I did find a partial screenshot of a solution which helped me to cut a few corners.

GZ for both was less painful than the cache description suggested: certainly there were brambles underfoot and some nettles, but nothing like the shrubbery density of RR071. Despite the canopy the GPS took me straight to the right locations, where the hinted objects were pretty obvious, and the only fly in the ointment was that I was not the first to have signed the logs.

There's not much to be said about the solution here. I still haven't decided whether I prefer to be tormented by JigSwore or the usual jigidis.

What I was not expecting was having to solve both kinds. Either I cut and pasted something carelessly, or the checker was having an off day, and I ended up with the "you've solved the first part but there's more, now do this" message from an entirely different RR puzzle. (I thought those * pictures looked familiar ). So it's not surprising that I ended up at the GZ of a different cache, and couldn't relate what I was seeing to the hide or to other people's logs .

Once that was sorted out, the real GZ fitted the hint (and indeed the jigsaw) and (unlike some ) I had no difficulty reaching the heights.

I found this back in 2013, before Covid, when caching with debooted & ATM. debooted was the map expert, so most of the donkey work was done by her I being a map novice at the time.
Unfortunately, in those days we kept few notes, so I did not have the original coordinates.
Due to Covid I'm now caching solo, so I rolled up my sleeves and tried to solve unaided.
It was an ideal puzzle to solve whilst watching the test match.

I bumped into Gillywig at GZ who still had Rebecca to pick up.
Despite the warnings it was a relatively pain free find.

I have been meaning to do Rose and George’s caches for ages and decided today was the day to go and look for them. Having recently hurt my knee I was looking for a walk that wasn’t too taxing. It was a very hot day but the trees offered some shade.

Off to the final cache of the walk. I could hear the noise from the road as I got close. A small diversion from the path to get to GZ but with the hint it was obvious where I needed to head. Great hiding place for this large container. Rare to find one of these with most of the recently placed caches!

I have been meaning to do Rose and George’s caches for ages and decided today was the day to go and look for them. Having recently hurt my knee I was looking for a walk that wasn’t too taxing. It was a very hot day but the trees offered some shade.

Having found ‘Rose2’, I set off for ‘George2’. On my way to the joining of the two paths I say another main track to the right which seemed to be a short cut and so took that. As a result, I approached GZ from the opposite direction but not too much trouble getting there. However, finding the cache took me ages – it was so nearly a DNF!

The Phone GPS had me going back and forth, and after a good 15 minutes I decided the only option was to search every tree methodically. Eventually spotted some stickouflage and that led to the well concealed container.

Now to get onto the main path and find the remaining two caches. Thanks for the hide, George. This one was the hardest of the 4.

I have been meaning to do Rose and George’s caches for ages and decided today was the day to go and look for them. Having recently hurt my knee I was looking for a walk that wasn’t too taxing. It was a very hot day but the trees offered some shade. Parked at the given coordinates and as there seemed to be a path from there, I set off into the wood. This was a mistake! The path petered out after a couple of hundred yards and I found myself wading through ferns and brambles to get to the marked path. At one point I got foot caught in a bramble and fell flat on the ground – a couple of bruises sustained! Once on the right footpath I was soon at GZ.

I passed two horse riders on the way, but they were the only people I saw whilst in the woods. I searched on the wrong side of the path at first (the phone reception was quite bad), but once it had settled, I relocated and soon found what I was looking for. Loved the camo tape!

Somehow, I had reached the last weekend for the current souvenir and was worried that I wasn't going to quite get close enough. I had a planned expedition with the gang to attempt a night cache, but was worried that we might not find it. So I searched for somewhere convenient to cache on the way, and noticed this Adventure Lab series. As they are a great way to earn bonus points and less likely to go missing, I set off early and parked at the recommended coordinates. It was pretty chilly out, so I walked briskly between the various points, but was pleased to find all of the locations and answers without any difficulty. At GZ for this bonus, there were quite a few options matching the hint, but my caching instinct selected the obvious one and, after a brief battle with the prickly shrubbery, I had the cache in my hand. Thanks for an interesting tour. TFTC

I headed out for a drizzly 90-mile cycle through the Essex countryside today. An easy find here along this exclusive driveway to the church. The final find for the day, TFTC.

Decided to go for this as co-incidentally it was near where we had parked to do the Ad Lab. Wished we had looked at the map properly as the park was very squelchy due to the obvious rain fall. Oh well clothes and shoes clean.
A nice quick find. SL as TT TFTC
