We solved the puzzle back in July 2017 with help from our Kindle device.
Finally, today we were "only" 40 miles away at an orienteering event so took the opportunity to collect this one. Very relieved that after all the driving that this was an easy find.
All is well with the cache.
Thanks to Mr Crow for a challenging mystery cache.

This puzzle has been on and off the active to-do pile for years.
Mr J wrote many programs trying to extract some meaning from the numbers.
Finally nailed with help from other cachers.
Thanks, Mr Crow.

Solved 28/8/18
It has been quite a journey navigating around the roads of Essex. I’ve learnt a lot about the sneaky ways that course setters can trick you into going the wrong way. At least I can read maps. Possible routes were plotted online using OS Maps. I quickly learnt that you have to follow the route very exactly. It took me 10 days to navigate the course. Half of those were on leg 3 – saved by the CO after 5 days of trying. Keep going after leg 3! The Checker is more forgiving after that. At the end you are stuck with the problem of working out what the average speeds were. Not an easy one.
FP awarded.
...RR250GLXRPPWERR250 - Navigator 3Found itjollyquest
Mr J spent ages on this puzzle trying to extract something useful from the photos, but in the end was let down by an old version of a favourite tool. Now using v2.10.
But that was only stage 1. Had some numbers but how did that relate to coordinates??
And finally the solution.
A great puzzle which is right on theme for a mature car rally navigator.

Thanks for this nice cache in the impressive landscape.

#3928:
I spent the day in Tiptree, and needed a cache to fill in a calendar day before heading back home to the Dengie. This one was the nearest drive by, so I took a short diversion on my way to Maldon.

I cautiously sleuthed in the dark, avoiding passing cars and checking the wrong places. Suddenly something caught my eye and I gently investigated. I soon had the cache in my hand and the log was signed. TFTC, and have a fave for the great container.

Today we made the Hooker Valley Track. It was really beautiful weather and a perfect day for a short hike ????. There were a lot (quiet a lot !) people on the track today! ... but the way is so lovely and at the end you can have a picnic with an awesome view! On the track we made all the caches which were placed here, this was one of them. All of them don’t take too much time to find, so we had enough time to enjoy the walkway. Many thanks for all the owners for hiding caches along this track and greetings from Germany ????!

We found the cache "Aoraki Thalamorph" during our road trip through New Zealand. We started in December 2018 at Auckland and we'll travel with our campervan to the very south. The landscape and nature is overwhelming . It's always a lot of fun and a great adventure to go for this hobby in our vacation too . Thanks to the Owner "Mr Crow (maintained by drawp)" who placed the cache and his maintenance in the future!!!

At this place of the log, I would like to put all the best regards from Aalen, Baden-Württemberg, Germany in this cache as well .

Stole it!!!

(Only joking :-))

For a long time I knew half of the numbers but really struggled to understand how to get the remainder. Nothing seemed to work well and a process of gradually narrowing down and playing off hunches against possibilities did not seem to be working well for me :-(

In the end it was narrowed down enough to please the checker

And it was found very close to a place where I'd previously found nothing of interest! :-P

Thank you - a favorite

Today Jul1ane and me are in Twizel, and since Mt. Cook is just around the corner, we decided to head there and do some hiking. First we did the Hooker Valley Track, including an additional detour to the west side of Hooker Lake (but we couldn't reach the cache there), followed by the Kea Point Track. The day started cloudy and overcast, but just as we reached Hooker Lake, it started to clear up, the sun came out, and the mountains started to show their summits. We really enjoyed our hike, and of course we also searched and found some caches on our route.

Nice spot, again most people hiking the track seem to ignore this spot, just like the monument at the start of the track.

D4nielB and me decided to drive from Twizel towards Mount Cook today and hike the Hooker Valley Track and the Kea Point Track. Of course we tried to find some caches on our way.

Again, strange as it is, none of the muggles took the short path aside the track to go here. So we had enough time to search for the container undisturebd. Didn't take us too long.

Thanks for hiding and greetings from Hamburg, Germany.

From our campsite White Horse Hill we made a hike to the Hooker Valley and glacier, crossing the Hooker river over three swingbridges. That was a great hike with spectacular views. It was quit windy and during the last part a drizzle now and then. We were able to find all caches that are hidden along this trail, including the one on the other side of the glacierlake. Some of the adjectives describing the puzzle : challenging, addictive, sadistic, pedantic.

The first few goes were wasted as we tried to understand the rules for correct answers. We would have solved this in 16 goes were it not for a typo in entering one answer.
We got there in the end - just in time for Christmas.
Now onto Puzzle Teacher ...

Puzzle:
The Case for Polygrupal Forward-Error Correction has been a great challenge to the geocaching community.
Dr Dolly Quest’s early research into Mr O’s paper failed to provide any enlightenment. Without any filter there were just too many obfuscating numbers to be considered. The meson aquafluidity constant of Log(n51) = 49.930 is one we must now discredit as not being accurate enough.
Finally we resorted to a previous Methodology which has yielded results in the past. In a highly localized convergence with Dr Korvid on 18th June 2017 (ref GLR98K30) we were able to receive inferences about the nature of a filter that we could apply.
However, it wasn’t until recently that we applied the filter that led to today’s successful outcome.

We started lessons with Puzzle Teacher on Christmas and finally got the answer for question 100 at 11pm last night - just in time for our trip to Essex today.
Puzzle Teacher has been part of our life for the last 7 weeks with a 3 minutes session nearly every day and an average 2 puzzles to be solved every day.
One strategy which paid well was "if you don't have an answer for 9 points" then ask for a hint.
And there's one particular internet resource that will comfort you a lot.
Thanks for all the puzzling, Ray.

This is a log about tangents. Tangents, like logs, are called elementary functions, though for some reason nobody seems to learn about them in elementary schools. That may be because they are irrational functions. If that isn't confusing enough, meditate on the fact that they are also transcendental functions. Anything that can be elementary, irrational and transcendental at the same time is obviously absurd. Need I say more?

Fortunately I had the tools to hand to solve this irrational problem in a rational way, and numbers soon appeared, though a little more work was needed to get orderly coordinates.

Owing to a domestic crisis (resolved, thank you, the floor is now dry and no longer electrified ) I didn't have a solution until dusk today, but being in need of some exercise (domestic crisis, see above) I ventured out anyway. Fortunately it was too dark for me to see exactly what I was walking across, or my progress might have been more hesitant. As it was I had a pleasant half-mile walk, disturbing a surprising number of roosting fowl, and at GZ there was a fine example of a well-hosted cache.

TFTC, and a favourite for no elementary or rational reason I can think of .

No trouble locating this one in the daylight this time. Loved the container. It was relatively quiet when I started my walk this morning from the school run. But I got rumbled by a very angry man when I was putting it back, he then decided he would walk with me around the rest of the woodland ranting about the youngsters touching things and how he had found some geocaches and taken them away mistaking them for rubbish.
Another instance of me not being able to walk around alone because an old man is concerned for my welfare. Cutting my caching adventure short for today sigh TFTC

So despite having a ranting man in tow he luckily bumped into someone he knew (it was like a mother’s meeting, it was so busy) and I wondered off further a field just to have a bit of peace. He said earlier he had found “an item” at GZ because his dog had found it and he took it home. So he was non the wiser about what it was and he gives me the impression he does this a lot as he said he “likes to clear up after everyone” to the point I heard him rowing with the owner of the land because he has been cutting back trees etc when he isn’t meant to.
So after my ramble further away I saw everyone including this man leave in their cars and the woodland got eerie and quiet so I went back to see if it was still there.
To my surprise it wasn’t long until I had this in my hand because I was sure it had been muggled. It took me ages to get the log out .... I walked off at one point frustrated and actually went back and I finally got it open! My giant man hands really were my downfall here and I needed Nathan’s delicate lady fingers for this one, but unfortunately he wasn’t with me today haha. TFTC

Solved a long time ago - the generous provision of digits made it easy to confirm a hypothesis even before solving the anagram - but then put on one side, as a relatively inaccessible outlier.

Today was a day of cache & dash finding, rather than my preferred approach of planning a long walk with a sequence of finds, so it wasn't difficult to fit this one in. Approaching from the north-east, parking is easy and it's only a short walk to GZ along a surprisingly well-used path, considering that it doesn't really go anywhere. Thanks to the hint I soon extracted the container - the bag may have been well chewed, but its contents are in good condition.

#2000, probably my 254th RR, and a worthy find for a milestone.

Endless frustration (having to start from 1 every time ), punctuated by occasional long runs of correct answers, not helped by my geriatric computer stuttering so I didn't know whether I was entering the previous answer to the next question or vice versa, nor by my tendency to typos. But eventually I reached #100, and may even have learned a few obscure facts along the way.

GZ was a nice straightforward find, well hidden but obvious to the trained eye

Highly confusing at first, but it all made sense when I discovered the right resource.

Took longer than I should have done at GZ to locate the log, because for some irrational reason I was expecting a different kind of container.

#4063:
This is a cache I was unaware of for a very long time, due to being on the edge of a sea of puzzles.
I had forgotten about it again for quite a long time until noticing it on my saved caches map. I was in Tiptree today, and wanted to get a cache before I headed home. Today was the perfect day to attempt it, as it was dry and still daylight, so I needed to seize the opportunity.

It's not secret that I'm not a fan of these kind of multis, but I felt obligated to complete it as it had a low number and due to it being located in Essex. I managed to find the first two names fairly quickly, but it quite rapidly went downhill. Meanwhile, a man from BT Openreach arrived and asked how he was able to get into the churchyard. Unfortunately for him, he had to contact the vicar to unlock the gates. I left him be and continued trudging round graves.

I could bear two full sweeps of the churchyard before giving up and trying to solve the coordinates from what I had found. I had 7 names of the 9, but it was enough for me to solve the Longitude. Knowing this, it was fairly obvious where the cache would be. After searching two other trees, I had the cache in my hand. Unfortunately the log was so soaked that my pen wouldn't write on it. I've included a photo of the log to prove my find. TFTC.

I will say though that the area is absolutely gorgeous, and really peaceful. Well worth the visit.

Clocks necessarily make one think of that voluminous verbal masterpiece known in English as Remembrance of Times Past or In Search of Lost Time. I think the latter may be the more appropriate translation here...

Something about this puzzle reminded me of two earlier RRs, one paradoxical, the other of questionable longitude, and a catchy line from a song, which had been used as a hint, or possibly a leitmotiv in the manner of a little phrase by Vinteuil, and that memory (as if evoked by a cup of tea and a madeleine ) inspired me to ignore the many colourful distractions around me and approach the core of the problem, which is (of course) its own solution, such that slowly a set of numbers materialised before my eyes and I saw, as if in a reverie, how the gaps were gradually filled in, forming an ever more convoluted and deepening sequence of meaning, much like a sentence by Proust.

It is possible that there is a much quicker route to understanding, but it involves the potentially dangerous activity of searching for lost time - which is only possible on certain dates and should under no circumstances be done in an anticlockwise direction - whereby the successful seeker will be rewarded with instant gratification, but the penalty for failure is to be consumed by a chronosynclastic infundibulum, in which spacetime is turned inside out, and only tomorrow's logs will show whether anyone succeeds.

Approaching GZ I hesitated between two approach routes, and eventually decided on Swann's way, but unlike the narrator of the eponymous work I encountered nobody of interest, indeed nobody at all, on my way to my target, where a short search revealed a container, and within it a most remarkably unProustian piece of paper, on which there was no writing whatsoever.

I really must read the cache page instructions more carefully. After about four different spread-sheets and only one good answer I returned to the page and realised that I needed any integer answers, not prime numbers! Doh....... Then it was a quick find of the numbers. A kind poke by the CO confirmed that I was on the right track.

Quick find today on a stroll out with canine friend Eddy.

Nice to be back solving Mr.Crow caches after trying some of Stratoman's and Foxy's.

Preparing for a mini break with the Crow I set about solving some puzzle caches. One puzzle stood out and I had a lot of fun solving it. The Crow took a look at what I was doing and reckoned that he could short cut the solve. ten minutes later he declared it "clever" and left me to my analogue method of cracking it. I knew, however, that the word "clever" meant that it was only a short while before a RR version would appear! It was just a matter of time!

A lovely walk to GZ with lots of spring flowers to enjoy. Have a favourite.

For some reason, maybe the advent of Spring (or at least longer evenings), maybe because the trauma of learning lines is stimulating the growth of new brain cells, my mind experienced an unexpected spurt of creativity over the last few days and I was able to solve four particularly intractable puzzles in quick succession. That led to a concentrated effort to find both those and a number which had been on the solved pile rather longer.

For some reason (maybe the thought of some of its predecessors) I kept putting off looking properly at this puzzle, but once I had done so, a couple of hypotheses turned out to be correct and one ambiguity was resolved by the appearance of some plausible numbers. Unfortunately the checker refused to accept them, so it's possible I broke some unstated rule of the game. However, taking the history of this cache into account, the numbers still suggested a starting point for a conjectural search which proved to be fruitful.

GZ wasn't exactly where I had pictured, but a little to-and-fro-ing eventually led me to a suitably thematic cache.

My initial idea about this puzzle turned out to be correct, but for some reason the detail eluded me and I had two incompatible partial solutions. On combining them I discovered that their wavefunction collapsed, as we physicists say, and the result was a complete checker-satisfying answer, though I still don't know why.

GZ turned out to be a very familiar location and I extracted the cache from its lair without difficulty.

Stage 1 of this puzzle posed no problems, but I was left with an unusually large amount of puzzling data with no apparent pattern, and it took far longer than it should have done for the penny to drop, after which it was the work of moments to extract coordinates.

GZ was equally straightforward once I parsed the hint correctly.

Another one solved a long time ago, and subsequently DNF'd. I recall that it took a long time to work out the encoding, even given the basic idea. Anyway, eventually the numbers appeared.

Today at GZ the log was present, though well hidden.

I had a maths teacher at school who had some interesting turns of phrase:
"Watch the blackboard while I go over it" - or -
"... through it"
"Smith, Jones, Robinson! Leave the room at once, both of you!"
That was entertaining. This was not. Time-limited tests are not my favourite occupation, particularly when the penalty for overrunning is to start again, so let's draw a veil over the solving process. Enough to say that eventually Sir was satisfied.

GZ was a straightforward find, though I found the hint slightly oblique.

GZ was nearly a DNF as there were many possible locations, but seconds after getting confirmation from the CO (thanks Ray) that the current hint still applied I spotted the little, er, nuisance.

This was one I solved some time ago and if I recollect correctly, needed a large nudge to associate reference with referent, and even then my efforts were hampered by using a reference source which had been inadequately refereed and contained not O's but 0's. Once that omission was sorted the coordinates followed quickly.

Today this was probably the nearest I came to a DNF. Standing where the GPS indicated, I was surrounded by hint items, and it was only when I expanded the search to the other side that something interesting caught my eye...

It may be that Gillywig's cosmic-resonance theory played a part here, but if so it took its time. This had sat on the unsolved file for a long time, but this morning I looked at it again and had an idea. Testing the idea was easy, as I already had the correct tool in my box and on applying it a series of almost-recognisable numbers started to emerge. A small tweak later, and half the coordinates were there... a few moments with pencil and paper and another hypothesis turned out right, and with it the remaining coordinates appeared.

I had a drizzly walk to GZ, where I too met what was left (not much) of the squirrel, but not far away, guided by a discarded pen-top, I observed a more promising location where the promised cute avian was indeed hiding.

With newly renewed perseverance I plodded on.
Data gathering mercifully reduced by gb's log re red, blue, cyan, brown, black, mauve, puce, etc herrings.
Another piece of intel and then it was just a question of time.

Talking of which, What do clocks measure?
Einstein famously said “Time is that which clocks measure".
The hands on a 'clock' essentially show us a simple example of steady rotation.
We assume the rotating hands on a simple clock tell us something about the passing of a thing called 'Time', so where a hand points relates to 'now', and as it rotates it heads into the future.
I'm sure that at one point I knew I would solve it in the future, as no doubt others will.

Struggled to find at first. I had a google Earth print out and pace notes (~200 and 25) so was confident I was in the correct location. After relocating a dead pheasant I re-searched and by chance spotted it. Very well concealed.

So I was actually just about to get in a bath when Nathan messaged me to say there was a FTF opportunity just up the road from me. So I ditched my bath and took my eldest boy (7) with me for a drive up the road.

It was started to get dark when we arrived and our GPS had us in a silly location. We were about to walk away when I saw a more “cachey” and appealing tree. Soon had the cache in hand and my little one had his eye on the golf ball, unfortunately he didn’t bring anything to swap but I will try and pop something in next time I’m passing.

#1976,

We saw this one and the Rough and Rummage caches come out messages exchanged. SuperLizzy might come but would probably get bored so this one first.

As it was Aly's side of town it made sense for me to pick them up in Darcy rather than have her drive Merlin over to get me.

Drove over and SuperLizzy had opted out so picked up Aly and away we headed.

Parked outside the Church gates and tried to work out how to get inside. That puzzle solved we walked up the path to where the cache was hid. The phones were inconsistent with location so we looked in different places and it was Aly that said got it.

I knew it has been found as logs showed online (why do people do that? I know some think it helps let FTFers know it's been found, I prefer not to know as it means I still get the flutters finding out) but Aly didn't.

No FTF for us here, we were 4th!

Found on Tuesday 9th April 2019 at 9.10pm with Hafgood.

SuperLizzy was up for geocaching tonight but then let me down at the last minute! Lightweight! ????????

Hafgood had agreed to collect me to go for this one, then the Route and Rummage Series afterwards. We never seem to be able to get out when published, family life is always busy, so it was a little later that we managed to get out.

We parked up and at first couldn’t work out how to get in, the gate seemed to be locked, then we noticed the side bit ????.

Our tech initially struggled to pinpoint GZ but after a short search it was me who spotted the hide. Were we going to be first?......had it already been signed?.......unbeknown to me Haf knew it had already gone because someone had already logged it - he didn’t let on though ????, so I still had that exciting anticipation of wondering if it was a FTF......oh no.......fourth! A lovely sunny afternoon to herald the Easter weekend, so Mrs PB, PB Jnr and I headed off towards the Heybridge Basin for a late afternoon breath of air, picking up 5 caches in various locations.

5/5. Unable to retrieve this on my mammoth Rally Round day, just over a year ago. This year's spring had been much drier, so despite coming equipped with wellies, I was delighted to see that they would not be needed on arrival at GZ. PB Jnr went ahead of me and soon had this elusive cache in hand. Another RR ticked off! TFTC #3555

I've looked st this cache many times and not really got off the starting blocks. A few months back I I was looking at placing a cache in Tiptree to mark the success of the Jam Factory in the town. I knew where several of the caches in the area were and so had a good idea where there were gaps. However, I wasn't anticipating Nathan's side tracked cache and ended up putting my idea on the back burning.

I was reading through a few previous logs on hard to find caches and noticed Nathan was the last person to find this one by using a bit of logic and so decided to give it a try today. It's an area I've searched speculatively before and found nothing but today the cache was there just waiting to be found. Added my name to the log and waled away with a big smile on my face.

Thanks Mr Crow. I'm sorry I didn't work it out the way intended, but there are sometime more than one approach to a tricky puzzle!

After finding a Rally Round cache a week or so ago I decided to have a go at this one. It took a while to realise how to get 'into' the puzzle, but after returning to the page several times the penny dropped and I knew what to do.

The information gradually appeared and I had what I thought was a good set off coordinates. Put them into the checker but they weren't wrong. Drat! Returned to the puzzle and looked at my workings. Realised my error and once rectified I got the green light.

Off to find the cache this morning before work. once at gz it was a quick find and the log signed. Got a rather odd look on the way back from the farmer!

A multi as a change from the usual RR fare, and so some fieldwork was required. I assumed that the cryptic part would all make sense once I had sight of the target, so there was nothing for it but a walk in the wet. However, just as I was thinking of setting off, a really heavy downpour arrived so I decided to wait a while for it to ease. When I finally left, I had a rather roundabout journey as Braxted Road was blocked by an accident. Eventually arrived at stage 1 I found the relevant inscription... which at first sight left me no closer to solving the conundrum on the cache page .

So... it's just as well that while waiting for better weather I had passed my time investigating an armchair solution method .

The route to Stage 2 was noticeably wetter, and the undergrowth unloaded much of its superfluous moisture over me, but at GZ there was a nice pot of goodies (TLNL) and a blank log.

Due to my love of The Beatles and the cache's seeming proximity to Maldon and the Dengie, it was a priority to find it.

I decided to head here after my event to finally pick it up. On the way round, I was stopped by a woman on a quad bike to ask what I was doing. I said I was just having a walk round, and quizzed that this was a permissive footpath. She said it was and it wasn't, and then let me on my way...

Nearing GZ, I saw the cache was unfortunately surrounded by fishing tents. Closer still, and the anglers were out of their tents and wondering about. I didn't want to compromise the cache, so decided to abandon the search. Maybe I'll be able to pick it up in a few years

Well, I absolutely loved this.

I played the original many times (and long after it's achiving) and never got beyond 31/52 ie round 31.

Back in the '70s I investigated optimising strategies pre-computing and wasted many an hour trying to understand the maths involved.

Higher/Lower had promted me to develop a spreadsheet to record the cards 'played' with the intent to quickly calculate the Higher/Lower probabilities. This was abandoned for a more pragmatic approach as even knowing the probabilities at each turn, I soon realised that the chance of succeeding was negligible.
( I would love to know the probability of success if choosing the most likely at each turn. A calculation beyond me and also beyond my ability to program a simulation to run many times.)

This has the BRILLIANT display of the remaining cards. After friviously wasting my first 10 attempts I realised that 5 million tokens was less than 2^26 and so this may be tricky.
I started to employ my distribution stratagey and seemed to improve but not get really close but encouraged enough to anticipate the next calendar day with some optimism.

The 'winning' attempt was more than a little tense. The occasional risk being taken and most paying off. With 10 rounds to go I suffered a major set back and was resigned to failure but with 3 rounds left and 3 tokens I just trusted in lady luck.

This is just so much fun. (I can say that now) It is I think, my favourite Rally Round to date and there have been some epic ones.

The find was without any problems. Parked further away than necessary and a pleasant walk with the sun out and a pair of buzzards above. Not at my plot but soon spotted. SL circa 12:30

I have spent along time and a number of days looking at this puzzle. I got part way through the solving and then hit a brick wall. Picked it up several times and each time got a bit further. Returned to it the other day and decided I wasn’t going to give up until I’d got a â€Correct’ from the checker.

Decided to look for the cache today after spending a large part of the afternoon gardening. Parked up safely, and just off the road, and them walked to GZ. The coordinates wanted me on one side of the path but there was nothing there. A much more promising area on the other side and so had a good look instead. The area was quite overgrown but I was spurred on by the fact that there were signs of a previous search. Despite a good look I just couldn’t find it.

I’ll return once it’s had a maintenance check or another cacher has found it. Thanks, Mr Crow.

Dear me.
I assumed correctly what this was about, but had no idea how to extract any sensible numbers. Everything I tried I got so far then failed. I asked myself if my musical ineptitude was my problem. If it was then I had about as much chance of solving as a sow has passing through the eye of a needle. With what I had, I wondered If I had a long, long way to go but the difficulty indicated not. I kept revisiting, hoping somehow to throw some light on the way forward, but no amount of coffee, latte or otherwise seemed to tease out a solution.

Enough of this nonsense, eventually I tried something and realised R2D2 was nothing to do with Star Wars. One minor hurdle didn't feel right but the rest was just so.

Doh! Ray. How did it take me far so long?

The first thing to do when solving a puzzle is to read the title and follow its lead, and I was duly
led to a series of numbers. But how to use them? Stage 1 was fairly straightforward, and I had a reasonably good idea for stage 3, but something was missing in the middle.
My first guess led to an interesting coincidence, but that was a red herring, and that way madness lies.
The second thing to do when solving a puzzle is to read the title again, and duly alerted I looked more closely... surely it can't be that? But it was, and as it happens I had just what was needed in my toolbox so it was a matter of moments to extract the coordinates.

At GZ I could have done with a red riding hood, because there was no sign of red sky at night behind the low drizzly cloud, and if Nature wasn't actually red in tooth and claw she was at least very soggy underfoot. Thanks to these conditions there was nobody about, so I was not caught red-handed looking for the cache. At GZ I soon located the container, so my face was not red, and it contained a pristine log, so it was a red letter day. Having dealt with the red tape I set off home, taking care to stop at red lights. Moreover my credit is not in the red, so I can afford to roll out the red carpet and award a favourite.

At gz we looked for the hint item and we were struggling, before we realised that was some time ago and it has now grown a bit, so didn't look quite as we were initially expecting. Why is it always me that gets sent in to find at retrieve?
Having done all the hard work though, it didn't take long. All good here. Tftc.

Despite the fact that my wife's maiden name is "Graham" , it took an eternity to get the MO for this clever puzzle. Even then it still took quite a while to get the numbers.

Decided to get to GZ via another puzzle hide and thought initially I was on the wrong side of the ditch. So rather than a long walk decide to hop across. Not a good idea at 75 LOL
Worse still when I got to the other side I realised it was the wrong side !!
Now the search started and 45 minutes later I gave up as my cream tea addition was telly me to come back later.

So after cream tea and a few more finds I returned, this time from the north.
After another 30 minutes, several failed PAF's and my hat falling into the ditch I spotted the little bugger

Delighted, I headed home with a full set of 9 finds for the day.

I know absolutely nothing about football.
Had to do some research as I had no idea what the points system was.
Knocked together an Excel spreadsheet and soon gave up.

That was 12 months ago. On resurrecting the spreadsheet I realised it was actually a maths puzzle and I could completely forget about football.
Soon had the for/against entries solved but not the order, using a bit of Python.
Then the Won/Draw/Lost/Pts using logic.
But then came the individual game scores which I finished up doing by trial and error using the spreadsheet to calculate the points table.
Took ages but got there in the end.

Got a bit of a shock to find there was yet another stage

Thankfully a quick find at GZ
I give this a fav but the subject matter put me off. LOL

Love this one once I knew what to do.

First visit to GZ in the morning resulted in a DNF.
I decided to press on as I had 8 more to collect.
Returned later in the day and again searched the same area but alas no cache.
Then I spotted something 90% buried, which I think should have been much higher up.
Signed and returned to a better position.
Log was soggy but usable.

My very first RR puzzle was Bonzo given to me by my now caching partner deebooted.
It set me in good stead for many solves, including this one.

With the tools accumulated over the years, stage one was straightforward.
Luckily I noticed very quickly the commonality, which help me see the "unusual".
From that the numbers came quickly.

FTS but alas STF

Little chance of getting a FTF really as it's an 80 mile round trip but pleased to pick up today.

The puzzle was one of the CO's easier offerings, helped by the very generous hint.
First and second stages were straightforward, but needed a bit of head scratching on the last bit until the penny dropped. What a great way to get the numbers.

I can't say the same about the hide though.
My GPS took me to an obvious host, which I systematically searched for 20 minutes.
Widening my search made little difference. Thankfully help was at hand and the hint clarified that I was 50 ft from the intended search area !!! Whether it was the coords, tree cover or my GPS I don't know but suffice to say, the cache was soon in hand, log book signed and returned.

Excellent well structured puzzle.

When the predecessor of this puzzle was published I calculated the odds of getting 52 correct answers was about 645452:1, which was of cause virtually impossible.

This new incarnation gives the solver a fighting change by allowing the odds of an outcome to be selected. Before plundering into task I wrote a few lines of Python to establish the best betting strategy. Eventually I found one which gave an average run length of 42 games to achieve 52 correct guesses.

So off I went sticking religiously to the plan despite the rather kamikaze approach.
One big advantage of the method was the daily quota of 10 games was over very quickly LOL

It took until game 68 to achieve 52 correct results a little over the average.

Straightforward find today at GZ, although parking was a little tight.

TFTC and favourite for all the fun.

It is two years almost to the day since we found 113 of the CO's excellent RR-series caches on an epic bike ride with our good friend Chris (one half of wendykmj). So, when we knew that we would be back in the area today it seemed appropriate to try for a couple more.

We were a little confused by the CO's most recent log here, but after spending a few minutes failing to find a film pot we went back to first principles (i.e. following the arrow rather than guessing) and soon found what appears to be the 'lost' cache - complete with log sheet recording the cache's most recent visitors (07/07/18). So, apparently another rescuss for us on this one.

This puzzle was one of 42 to remain on the solved pile after our previous visit to the area. This one was more on our wavelength and so after some methodical research we had some coords that passed muster. Thanks for another excellent puzzle and cache.

Having read past logs we had a fair idea what to expect here - and we weren't disappointed. But, with care the cache was located and retrieved. After signing the log, we replaced everything as found and continued to our second target.

It seems that we got a rescuss on this one.

This puzzle was one of 42 to remain on the solved pile after our previous visit to the area. The top level theme was obvious enough, but the finer points of the decode eluded us for a while. We eventually tried something that appered to work and after a bit of fettling we had a happy checker.

Very happy to be able to turn another RR cache into a smilie. Thanks for a great puzzle and cache.

I have just been berating myself for my poor performance in solving this puzzle after spending many hours and hundreds of attempts to finally make it to 100, and then after having solved it realise that I would have had considerable assistance if I had read the last paragraph of the cache description. I am asking myself how I didn't notice that this was the case. At least I don't feel so bad about having taken ten times (or more) longer than most people. I hope I can find it when I visit the area as the frustration has been bad enough already. Try being on 99 and being timed out at 3am in the morning after more than 600 attempts.

'Tis the season to be jolly...
No. No. Nonono. Not for months yet, though I have already seen one invitation this year to Book Now for the Festive Season. Right now it's a quite different season - glorious English summer with intermittent thunderstorms and gales in the forecast, but absolutely no snowflakes.

Nevertheless you can't keep a good caching idea down, so when one is archived another pops up in its place (or somewhere nearby). Consequently, recollecting its predecessor I didn't have much difficulty in decoding the first stage but as we all know, no two caches are alike and this time the decode led to another enigma, but a little research led to a surprising solution.

GZ was another challenge, with no obvious host in sight and no fake Yule logs, no holly, not even iv-covered trees, just luxuriant and unpleasantly spiky summer foliage to discourage a systematic search. Fortunately I spotted something before too much blood was shed, and soon had a blank log in my hands.

TFTC, and a favourite for the inspired combination of codes.

A very long route to solving. Such a intelligent puzzle. I stuck with a fundemental initial mistake which meant I was never going to make progress.
Two alternative approaches to cracking this nut would have worked this error aside.

In a passing email the CO enquired what I'd tried and a sit had been found put me straight.
I enjoyed the subsequent solve immensely.

Gz was without difficulty (detailed sketch not reqired as it happened) and a good well placed cache. Thanks Ray.

A favourite? Yes, clever mo and well it would be rude not too.

When this cache was first published I had an idea of how to start the puzzle having found the first incarnation of Flakey. Of course, this one wasn’t quite as straight forward. However, a bit of research and I knew what I needed to do. The numbers appeared and I knew they were correct. Still put them in the checker though just to make sure. It never pays to be too confident with a Rally Round!

Elizabeth had also been working on the puzzle and wasn’t far behind me in solving it.
We decided to go and look for it this morning. We both searched on the wrong side initially as there were hint items there that were likely candidates. I certainly got scratched trying to second guess where I thought it would be hidden. Once I’d extracted myself and rethought the final hide, as is so often the case, I saw what I was looking for.

Log signed and another solved RR under our belts. Thanks for the puzzle and the hide, Mr Crow. Have a FP.

I love this puzzle nearly as much as as the first one, and spent several happy minutes just playing before I remembered I was solving a puzzle. The first part was quickly done then came a pause while I considered what I had. Must to confess to making it harder than it actually was, but son got back on track and had some useful numbers. As usual my maths let me down and I had to find my mistake before the checker said yes.
Out with Karen to find the cache and we both got injured unnecessarily by looking in some very prickly bushes. Still once we changed sides the cache was quickly spotted and the log signed.
Thanks for placing the cache Mr Crow and a favourite point for the fun puzzle.

An infuriating puzzle to solve!
Mr J tried all the decoding tools in his arsenal, some with extra twists to handle extra tricks that Mr Crow might have embellished them with.
Finally resorted to help from the CO, and was introduced to a coding scheme he had never come across before.
The tool we used for the decoding didn't give an accurate enough answer so we were hoping that the image would help locate the cache. Not much. There has been tree work at the GZ as reported Mar/19/2019, so the cache was located by looking for the damage.
Glad we had our pub lunch BEFORE our long search!

I hadn’t looked at this one when it was first published as I’d assumed it would be too hard for me to solve. Opened the page almost by accident and realised it was in fact a game!

When I used to help at the Great Totham Church Fete we had a large set of cards (approximately 12 inches high) and we used to play this game on a stall to raise money. It is off course, much harder than it would first appear. I knew what I needed to do with this RR but not how to change the bidding. As a result, I aborted my first game halfway through! With more knowledge I started the second game and more by luck than anything else I got to the end. The coordinates appeared before my eyes and I was convinced that there had to be a catch. I put them into the checker and it said they were right!!!

What was even better was my name at the top of the Rally Round table on the cache page. That has never happened before and probably won’t occur again!

Decided to look for the ache on the way to work this morning. Saw the brambles and thought I can’t do that with my uniform on! However, there was a cachers path and I was soon in a position where I could retrieve the cache. Signed the log and replaced and continued my journey to work with a big smile on my face!

Thanks for the puzzle Mr Crow. Have a favourite point.

High time I got my finger out and did some RR's, so Saturday evening was sorted.

Looked at this at publication but it quickly went on the "haven't got a clue" pile.
There it stayed , other than a cursory glance, until now.

Now when this CO give an extra hint it is at your peril to ignore it, which I initially did.
Cast a "Spell" he said Hmm , surely not !
It was at this point that Excel came to my rescue and a little bit of VB. VoilĂ
Then onto the next bit which again was another task for Excel.
But still the check sums would not work , what was I doing wrong.
It would help if I read the hint properly , 0-999 and not 1-999 LOL

And so onto the find ....
As with cachers before, GZ took me to a decaying squirrel in a tree and reading their logs I realised this was not the hide.
I scanned the area for a more trademark hide for this CO, and soon spotted a suitable host.
The poor little avian was still safe & sound so I signed the log and returned him.

I had collected the relevant information for this months ago, but had no idea what to do with it.
How to get the numbers other than the two strange formulas which tell us to transform it twice then divide by a ridiculously accurate number, was a mystery.
Maybe there is a clue on the cache page ? Not that I could see :(

This was solved just a few days ago though why it took so long to attempt goodness knows. It turned out to be very enjoyable and straightforward. Mrs FF does like to play with maps. It doesn’t mean that it wasn’t without a couple of hiccups along the way though. The first attempt gave adjusted coordinates that were obviously wrong, being in the middle of a field. After a quick rethink realised we had gone right rather than left, or perhaps vice versa, at one point. Once that was sorted it soon led to a much better spot. It was at this point that we weren’t entirely sure what numbers to put in the checker. Before or after the adjustments? Of course we, or should I say Mrs FF, picked wrong so the checker didn’t like the numbers. Several attempts later, because of the inaccuracies of dropping a pin to get coordinates, she decided to try the alternative and got straight through. The clever Mr Crow had anticipated the fat finger/dropped pin variations.

We found somewhere safe to park a little way from the start of the path and had a very pleasant walk as the weather was much better, still windy, but drier. At GZ we searched what looked like an obvious place without success but then Mrs walked to the next place and looking down saw it was just lying there in full view. Signed the log, another resurrection. Returned it to where we found it but covered it with a couple of sticks.

Thank you Mr Crow for this cache which was very enjoyable and we have given another favourite.

The sister puzzle to the herringbone cache, Mrs FF felt this should be the easier one, but in the event it didn’t seem to go as straightforwardly. Eventually she took a view of the tulips and the map and there seemed to be one place that made sense and got through the checker first time.

We approached GZ as part of a walk in the area collecting a couple of other puzzles. The hint had been deciphered but without any certainty that it was right. However once there it immediately made sense and the search started. It took a short while to unearth the cache as it hadn’t been found for well over a year and in the intervening months had been completely covered in leaf mold. Mr FF was pretty grubby when he had finished rooting around.

We headed back to the car after this where lots of hand wipes got the worse of the dirt off. Then it was on to refreshments at a nearby hostelry and further hand washing.

Thank you Mr Crow for this cache which was find number 5385 for us.

We were having a pleasant walk in Mr Crow territory looking for caches as a birthday treat for Mrs FF. Geocaching really does give a you different idea of fun. The puzzle was solved several years ago without difficulty, being one of the earlier ones. There is a reason most of our solved ones are in the lower RR numbers!

The walk was short but as the footpath was along the edge of a ploughed field it was very claggy and wet. GZ was a nice quiet spot and we were able to search undisturbed. Mrs FF was one side of a fence giving directions to Mr as she had the compass and after a few minutes Mr FF found it well buried. Not a resurrection this time as it was last signed just a few days short of the year. Then it was back along the muddy field edge gaining pounds and inches from the mud on the boots.

This puzzle was a more recent solve, only 3 1/2 years! Checking my working papers this was an unusually easy Mr Crow puzzle. We actually had a puzzle cache planned on this same theme but now I am reminded about this we will have a rethink about that.

At GZ the weather was atrocious and a bit exciting with debris flying about. Anyway we had another longish search with the area well overgrown with brambles. Luckily we came equipped with gardening gloves so Mrs FF was fine although the more exposed hands of Mr sustained some minor injuries. In the end we found it exactly where the coordinates took us and took it back to the car to sign in the dry. This was our second find and second resurrection.

Thank you Mr Crow for this cache which was find number 5381 for us.

Thank you Mr Crow for this cache which was find number 5383 for us.

We were on our way towards Triptree hopefully picking up a few solved Mr Crow puzzles along the way. It was a short walk from where we parked but once at GZ realised we hadn’t deciphered the anagram hint. A bit of hasty work with a patchy phone signal and we were no further forward. To further complicate thing there was a man working on a ride on mower with a periodic view of where we wanted to search. We had a short rather perfunctory search when he disappeared behind the fence before deciding to leave it. We will return, hopefully, with the hint worked out.

Mrs FFs birthday was coming up, and as a birthday treat decided that we would return to Mr Crow territory and look for some more solved puzzle caches.

The puzzle was solved four and a half years ago and looking through the file it seems that there wasn’t too much difficulty though to be honest there isn’t a huge amount of recollection about it.

We have had three previous DNFs here when the cache has gone missing and in preparation of this visit contacted the CO to inform him of our intentions, as requested on the cache page. A very nice message was received along with an invitation to tea.

After a pleasant overnight stay in Maldon and a very nice meal we were ready to face the days challenges. However, there was the rugby to watch first! Consequently it was a bit later than originally planned before we set off on our puzzle hunting trip and this was the first of the day. Unfortunately just as we got to GZ the weather took a decided turn for the worse and it was extremely windy and wet.?? When it’s like this you need a quick easy find. This wasn’t. After a few minutes searching Mr FF returned to a spot already tried and after a bit more effort the cache was found. Took the cache to the car to sign to keep it dry. Very relieved and pleased to finally avenge the DNFs and it was the first of several resurrections today.

Thank you Mr Crow for this cache and we have given a favourite.

This was our last Mr Crow cache during a day of puzzle searching for MrsFFs birthday treat. Somehow the day had slipped away from us, the England Rugby match meaning we started later than originally hoped.

This was a nice puzzle just involving a simple bit of playing with numbers. Mrs FF likes numbers, you know where you are with them.

We weren’t sure how to approach the actual cache. We tried one spot to park, then while looking for a recommended car park, drove past what must be the start of the path. It still wasn’t absolutely clear where to go because of some temporary type fencing but a chatting man pointed us to the right side of the fence. Then it was a pleasant short walk over a field to a concealed spot where the search began. We were there a while searching here, searching there. Previous logs gave a snippet of information but we were beginning to wonder if this would be a DNF. We were thinking that after six and a half years we should do better. Then while Mrs FF was standing watching Mr FF on his hands and knees looking under something she realised she was next to what must be the cache location. Yes there it was. Felt particularly stupid as it was the same type of hide as an earlier find.

The log had last been signed 18 months ago and gave us
our 7th resurrection and 8th find of the day. Not big numbers compared to some but we had a lovely day despite the occasionally atrocious weather. It’s a lovely part of the country. It was time to end home via one last nearby CM and tea and homemade cake at Mr Crow’s.

Many thanks to Mr Crow for the hospitality and for giving so much pleasure with the challenging puzzles. We look forward to returning to search for a few more.

This is just the sort of puzzle Mrs FF likes. You know what to do, you just have to be careful and methodical. She does all manner of number logic puzzles all the time so this was great fun.

We parked nearby and had a short walk to the tucked away spot where Mr FF made an immediate find. This was another one not found for over a year, the last signature being our friend Janechick.

Thank you Mr Crow for this cache which was find number 5386 for us.

Solved this Rally Round fairly recently. It took a couple of goes before the Crow Checker said my numbers were correct but I'd made a rookie error in my calculations!

Off to Grantham this evening so that a caching friend and I can attempt a mammoth church micro haul on CM day tomorrow. That meant looking for this one on my way to work. An area I have passed many times. Slippery at GZ but managed to keep myself in an upright position and avoid any mud on my work clothes. Off to work knowing that today's cache has been sorted!

Thanks for the puzzle and the hide, Mr Crow. Have a favourite point.

Approaching 11.00am, so we stopped and parked and joined a very small number of people attending the Remembrance Service at Tiptree War Memorial.
Andrew and l then continued to Abberton for a couple of hours Birding.
I remembered l had finally solved this about a month ago, so we took a detour on way home and soon had the cache in hand.
An RR puzzle that l should have solved 3 years ago, l had the correct theme.
An extremely well thought out puzzle, that has to be in my top 5 of this series.

We arrived at Mt Cook around 3pm being all wet from the rain the day before. The campground was pretty empty, so we decided to set up our campervan and enjoy our rainy day. Waki and KL6 was on this portion of our trip with us, we ended up playing rummy until dinner. We got an early start and made breakfast around 7am. The sun was out and the skies were clear! We left our vans at around 750. We shared the trail with a few hikers this morning. Glad we timed it when we did! This was a quick find while on our way to Hooker Lake.
Thanks for the fun, Mr Crow (maintained by drawp)!

100% rain but we were lucky to get sun. Amazing hike.

Friends are here with us!!! CptPhoenix&TigerLily came to New Zealand too! We met near the end of our trip and their beginning! Now we are caching and campervanning together!!!

KL6 and I are in NZ for 16 days or so exploring the South Island mostly by campervan—with a few shoulder days in BnBs. We plan to visit the Fjordland first—Milford Sound—and the back track and head all the up the Punakaki Pancake Rocks vía the west coast, stopping by Franz Joseph along the way. Then back down to the lakes, Tekapo, Punaki, Mt Cook, and then Wanaka. Finally we’ll return back to Queenstown after our huge campervan adventure. Lastly back to Australia for a couple nights before heading back home to the USA.

Obviously, we stopped by this cache along the way. We originally had about 171 caches on the list to be near and check out. Whether due to favorites, or a planned stop for the evening. We have planned the adventure using cachetur.no which is amazing by the way. Highly recommend the website and app when you’ve got a lot to see and find. Helps keep you on track and it’s awesome to have a schedule with time estimates of when you’ll arrive at the next destination and if you’re ahead or behind schedule.

Thanks to Mr Crow (maintained by drawp) for the Cache! Found around 9:27 AM - I often sign as Wæki3 (shorthand for Wæki3_KL6 due to small logs and or KL6 not being with me for the cache find). This is Find #2219.

We have also contributed a lot of caches in the Flagstaff Arizona area, and currently to date we’ve hidden 85 caches. Even if you’re not in the area, I’m really into creating interesting and creative puzzles. I have some clever ones—many to do with logic, math, graphic design, or games. Checkout my certitudes page for a collection of many of the Unknown (Mystery) caches I’ve created (https://www.certitudes.org/feed?u=W%C3%A6ki3_KL6). Perhaps after a few solves, you’ll find yourself in the area.

After having followed the Hooker Valley Track and enjoyed the magnificent view at the end, on our way back we started to look for some of the caches along the route. This was the first of them. Thank you for telling us the story of this cache, which gives it a bit more relevance. For sure it would be interesting to read the novel, too.

Near the cache location the terrain was a bit difficult for searching (spiky plants and dense overgrowth), so we needed some time to find the cache, but in the end we consulted the spoiler photo which helped a lot! At least the spot is far away from the main path so that there were no muggles around.

Thanks for hiding the cache, and good success with your further novels!

Having been on a walk with Mr Crow and discussed this puzzle several years ago, I had an idea what I needed to do to solve it. I tried at the time but my old laptop just wasn’t up to the job in hand. I’d saved the image and noticed it the other day when browsing through my photos that had been backed up on Google. Decided to give it another go and came up with some very plausible coordinates. However, the checker wasn’t happy.

I hadn’t realised that the cache had been moved and the puzzle altered. With that knowledge gleaned from a maintenance log I decided to rework the puzzle and this time the checker was happy.

I’d hoped to save this cache for a work day but having tried to find the new Church Micro in Bardfield Saling and failing miserably, I decided todays cache would have to be his one if I wanted to keep my streak going. I had great difficult actually reaching GZ as there was prickly barrier making access to GZ very difficult. I had to crawl in on my hands and knees. There were a few potential hosts and I search 3 of them before moving slightly further along. Pleased I did because I found the custom cache safe and sound just where the hint said it would be. Log signed, and in hindsight, I’m glad I hadn’t attempted the retrieval on my way to work.

Thanks for the puzzle and the hide, Mr Crow. Favourite added - I've learnt something new!

Solved a few months back , just got around to picking up.

I had no idea what this was about from the cache page and even the hint (which I assumed was an anagram and was delighted to get "Use end numeral anomaly" !!)
So it was that it ended up on the "Haven't got a clue" pill until 3 years after publication a hint appeared that made some sense at pointed the way to the MO.

Using Excel the coords were soon calculated, although I have since discovered there is an even easier way to solve.

Great puzzle , just a shame it laid dormant for over 3 years.

I've looked t this several times since it was published and ended up putting it on the back burner as I couldn't work out how to get the right numbers. I'm not very good at anything that involves map references. I had a push from a fellow cacher which got me over my initial stumbling block and gradually the numbers I needed appeared. I've learned a lot doing this Rally Round!

I decided to look for it today as it's not too far from home and I'm still without my car. So many fallen leaves which hampered the search and a wide area where the cache could be concealed. It took a long time to eventually narrow down the search. area and then it was luck more than skill than led to the retrieval.

The log is a little the worse for wear and damp although I managed to sign my name. Thanks for the puzzle and the hide, Mr Crow.
